Adverb Clause of Purpose

Complex Sentence मधील दोन वेगवेगळी वाक्ये एकत्र जोडण्यासाठी एखाद्या Subordinating Conjunction चा उपयोग केलेला असतो.

अशा वाक्यातील Subordinating Conjunction ने सुरू होणाऱ्या वाक्याला गौणवाक्य असे म्हणतात, तर दुसऱ्या वाक्याला मुख्यवाक्य असे म्हणतात.

गौणवाक्याला इंग्रजी व्याकरणामध्ये Subordinating Clause (सबॉर्डिनेटिंग् क्लॉज्) असे म्हणतात.

तसेच, मुख्यवाक्याला इंग्रजी व्याकरणामध्ये Main Clause (मेन क्लॉज्) किंवा Principal Clause (प्रिन्सिपल क्लॉज्) असे म्हणतात.

Adverb Clause of Purpose ची रचना नेहमी एखाद्या Complex Sentence मध्ये वापरलेली असते.

वाक्यातील घडत असलेली क्रियेचा हेतू काय आहे, याविषयी अधिक माहिती देण्यासाठी Adverb Clause of Purpose चा उपयोग केला जातो.

या रचनेमधील Subordinating Clause ची सुरूवात नेहमी पुढीलपैकी एखाद्या Subordinating Conjunction ने केलेली असते.

• lest (लेस्ट) – कदाचित...म्हणून
• that (दॅट) – म्हणून
• so that (सो दॅट) – म्हणून

For example (उदाहरणार्थ),

• Come here that I may bless you.
• मला तुला आशीर्वाद देता यावा म्हणून इकडे ये.

वरील वाक्यामध्ये ‘Come here’ आणि ‘I may bless you’ या दोन वाक्यांना जोडण्यासाठी that (दॅट) हे Subordinating Conjunction वापरलेले आहे. त्यामुळे, या संपूर्ण जोडवाक्याला Complex Sentence म्हणजेच मिश्र वाक्य समजावे.

तसेच, ‘I may bless you’ हा संपूर्ण शब्दसमूह हेतूदर्शक क्रियाविशेषण अव्यय म्हणून वापरलेला आहे.

त्यामुळे, या Subordinating Clause ला Adverb Clause of Purpose असे म्हणतात.

या वाक्याचे पृथक्करण पुढीलप्रमाणे करता येते –

• Main Clause  Come here
• Subordinating Clause  that I may bless you
• Adverb Clause of Purpose modifying the verb ‘come’ in the Main Clause

ज्या Subordinating Clause ची सुरुवात lest या Subordinating Conjunction ने केलेली असते, तो नेहमी Adverb Clause of Purpose असतो.

For example (उदाहरणार्थ),

• Write it down lest you forget all about it.
• कदाचित त्याविषयी तू सर्वकाही विसरशील म्हणून तू ते लिहून घे.

वरील वाक्यामध्ये ‘Write it down’ आणि ‘you forget all about it’ या दोन वाक्यांना जोडण्यासाठी lest (लेस्ट) हे Subordinating Conjunction वापरलेले आहे. त्यामुळे, या संपूर्ण जोडवाक्याला Complex Sentence समजावे.

या Complex Sentence मध्ये ‘lest you forget all about it’ या संपूर्ण शब्दसमूहाचा उपयोग Adverb of Purpose म्हणून केलेला आहे.

या वाक्याचे पृथक्करण पुढीलप्रमाणे करता येते –

• Main Clause  Write it down
• Subordinating Clause  lest you forget all about it
• Adverb Clause of Purpose modifying the verb ‘write’ in the Main Clause

that किंवा so that यांपैकी एखाद्या Subordinating Conjunction पासून सुरू झालेल्या Subordinating Clause मध्ये जर may / might यांपैकी एखादे Modal Auxiliary Verb वापरलेले असेल, तर तो Subordinating Clause हा नेहमी Adverb Clause of Purpose समजावा.

कधीकधी अशा Subordinating Clause मध्ये may / might  याऐवजी can / could यांपैकी एखादे Modal Auxiliary Verb सुद्धा वापरलेले असते.

त्यामुळे that किंवा so that ने सुरू होणारा आणि can / could यांपैकी एखादे Modal Auxiliary Verb असलेला Subordinating Clause सुद्धा नेहमी Adverb Clause of Purpose समजावा.

For example (उदाहरणार्थ),

• He drew his sword so that he might defend himself.
• त्याला आपले स्वतःचे संरक्षण करता यावे म्हणून त्याने आपली तलवार उपसली.

वरील वाक्यामध्ये ‘He drew his sword’ आणि ‘he might defend himself’ या दोन वाक्यांना जोडण्यासाठी so that (सो दॅट) हे Subordinating Conjunction वापरलेले आहे. त्यामुळे, या संपूर्ण जोडवाक्याला Complex Sentence समजावे.

या Complex Sentence मध्ये ‘so that he might defend himself’ या संपूर्ण शब्दसमूहाचा उपयोग Adverb of Purpose म्हणून केलेला आहे.

या वाक्याचे पृथक्करण पुढीलप्रमाणे करता येते –

• Main Clause  He drew his sword
• Subordinating Clause  so that he might defend himself
• Adverb Clause of Purpose modifying the verb ‘drew’ in the Main Clause

• I gave him a chance so that he could make a profit for himself.
• Main Clause  I gave him a chance
• Subordinating Clause  so that he could make a profit for himself.
• Adverb Clause of Purpose modifying the verb ‘gave’ in the Main Clause

• You must obey the king lest you get punished.
• Main Clause  You must obey the king
• Subordinating Clause  lest you get punished.
• Adverb Clause of Purpose modifying the verb ‘must obey’ in the Main Clause

• They walked fast so that they couldn't miss the bus.
• Main Clause  They walked fast
• Subordinating Clause  so that they couldn't miss the bus.
• Adverb Clause of Purpose modifying the verb ‘walked’ in the Main Clause
