Subordinating Conjunctions

चौथ्या गटामधील Adverb Clause of Condition च्या Subordinating Clause ची सुरूवात नेहमी पुढीलपैकी एखाद्या शब्दाने किंवा शब्दसमूहाने केलेली असते.

in case (इन केस)
जर...तर
supposing (सपोजिंग)
जर...तर
provided that (प्रोवायडेड दॅट)
जर...तर
but that (बट दॅट)
शिवाय, खेरीज
should (शुड)

नियम १

Participial Phrases (पार्टीसिपिअल फ्रेजेस)

supposing आणि provided that या शब्दांना इंग्रजी व्याकरणामध्ये Participial Phrases असे म्हणतात.

ज्या Subordinating Clause ची सुरुवात supposing किंवा provided that यांपैकी एखाद्या Participial Phrase ने केलेली असते, तो Subordinating Clause नेहमी Adverb Clause of Condition असतो.

नियम २

Conjunctional Phrases (कंजंक्शनल् फ्रेजेस)

in case आणि but that या शब्दांना इंग्रजी व्याकरणामध्ये Conjunctional Phrases असे म्हणतात.

ज्या Subordinating Clause ची सुरुवात in case किंवा but that यांपैकी एखाद्या Conjunctional Phrase ने केलेली असते, तो Subordinating Clause नेहमी Adverb Clause of Condition असतो.

नियम ३

should चा Subordinating Clause

should चा उपयोग इंग्रजी व्याकरणामध्ये Auxiliary Verb म्हणून किंवा Subordinating Conjunction म्हणून करता येतो.

जेव्हा should चा उपयोग Subordinating Conjunction म्हणून केलेला असतो, तेव्हा त्यापासून तयार होणारा Subordinating Clause नेहमी Adverb Clause of Condition समजावा.

For Example (उदाहरणार्थ)

Ex. 1
  • In case he does not behave, he will be punished.
  • Main Clause :
    he will be punished
  • Subordinate Clause :
    In case he does not behave
  • Adverb clause of condition modifying the verb will be punished in the Main Clause.
Ex. 2
  • But that I saw it, I couldn't have believed it.
  • Main Clause :
    I couldn't have believed it
  • Subordinate Clause :
    But that I saw it
  • Adverb clause of condition modifying the verb couldn't have believed in the Main Clause.
Ex. 3
  • Supposing it were true, we should not have laughed.
  • Main Clause :
    we should not have laughed
  • Subordinate Clause :
    Supposing it were true
  • Adverb clause of condition modifying the verb should not have laughed in the Main Clause.
Ex. 4
  • You can borrow the book provided that you return it soon.
  • Main Clause :
    You can borrow the book
  • Subordinate Clause :
    provided that you return it soon
  • Adverb clause of condition modifying the verb can borrow in the Main Clause.
Ex. 5
  • Should the train be delayed, I will call you.
  • Main Clause :
    I will call you
  • Subordinate Clause :
    Should the train be delayed
  • Adverb clause of condition modifying the verb will call in the Main Clause.
