Compound Preposition “against”
against (अगेन्स्ट) हे एक Compound Preposition आहे.
Compound Preposition म्हणून वापरताना इंग्रजी व्याकरणामध्ये against चा उपयोग पुढीलपैकी एक अर्थ दर्शविण्यासाठी केला जातो.
against = विरुद्ध
For example (उदाहरणार्थ),

- तो त्यांना त्याच्या इच्छेविरुद्ध भेटला.
Example 2
- India will win the first match against England.
- इंग्लंडविरुद्धचा पहिला सामना भारत जिंकेल.
against = वर (टेकून, खेटून)
For example (उदाहरणार्थ),

- He was leaning against the wall.
- तो भिंतीवर झुकला होता.
- तो भिंतीला टेकून उभा होता.
Example 2
- She was sitting against the window.
- ती खिडकीवर (खिडकीला टेकून) बसली होती.
against = वर (..च्या पार्श्वभूमीवर, ..च्या वर उठून)

- The trees looked dark against the morning sky.
- सकाळच्या आकाशावर झाडे गडद दिसत होती.
- सकाळच्या आकाशातील रंगांच्या पार्श्वभूमीवर झाडे गडद दिसत होती.

- या आवाजावर (आवाजाच्या वर उठून) बोलणे कठीण आहे.
